Today, the internet makes it easy to find and communicate with other people all over the world. Social networking websites have demonstrated the power of this modern phenomenon, however this has yet to be harnessed for professional networking within the global academic and scientific research community.
InMyField is designed to be a new tool to enable such networking. We want to build an online community with a relaxed, positive, open atmosphere conducive to knowledge sharing and creative thought. The creators of InMyField have academic backgrounds, and the site is designed specifically for people working in research and academia. In order to create an open atmosphere we require all users to register and create profiles; all member information is only available to other InMyField members, so you know you are sharing your information with other like-minded individuals. As in any community you should be accountable for what you say and do, so we have terms and conditions which we expect our members to adhere to. And also, as with any community, you will get the most out of it by taking part.
We realise that the usefulness of InMyField is directly proportional to the size of the membership database. This is why we are currently offering free memberships to all pioneer members until the database has reached a sufficient size to justify the small annual membership fee. This fee will ensure we can maintain the website and provide an efficient service without having to resort to prolific banner advertising.
