Do I need to complete all the areas of my profile?

You are only required to provide the following information: name, email address, general field, specific field.

However to make the most of their InMyField membership we strongly encourage members to fill in all the fields with as much detail as they can. Your profile is used by other members to find out about you, but it is also used to provide you with tailored information regarding new members, new funding and employment opportunities, and new forum discussions.

Do I need to enter all my profile information at once?

No. You can enter as much or as little information at a time as you want; just remember to always click 'save' at the bottom of the screen to ensure the information is stored on your profile. You can update your profile with new information at any time.

Why should I upload a photo?

Having a photograph on your profile is not required, but being able to put a face to a name is more welcoming, and helps encourage a sense of community.

What are the 'keywords' for?

The keywords are probably the most powerful item on your profile. We would suggest entering as many as you can to describe your specific field of work and any specific skills you have. This could include a prescise area of interest within your field, an exact topic of study, or a piece of equipment or software you are skilled and experienced with. The 'Find Similar' function places a lot of weight on matching keywords, and they allow members to search and find exactly the area they are looking for.

What is 'My Library'?

My Library is one of the many useful tools offered by InMyField. In this section of your profile you can upload files which other InMyField members can view. For example this could include lecture notes as a Word Document, presentation slides as a PowerPoint, or an image file. In My Library you can also link directly to YouTube. This allows you to embed video clips - for example of a lecture or conference presentation - and lets other members view these videos, directly from your profile page.

Who can view my profile?

Any member of InMyField can search for members and view member profiles. Your information is only available to other InMyField members.

Who can contact me?

Any member can contact another member by selecting the ‘contact’ button on the member’s profile. The communication will be sent as an email from InMyField to the member's own email inbox. In this way members emails will not be disclosed unless they choose to personally send or reply to a communication received from InMyField.

How can I promote my profile?

You don’t actively promote your profile, your profile is there to promote you. Use your profile to give a complete picture of you as a research professional. We encourage you to be very specific about the fields you work in, the work you have done and the skills you have developed. You can also to continually update your profile to ensure it remains current.
